El Ministerio de Igualdad se creó a comienzos del 2008, en está presente legislatura de Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, con el objetivo de impulsar las políticas sociales amparadas en la Ley para la Igualdad y la Ley Integral de Violencia sobre la mujer, al igual que promueve campañas en el Instituto de la mujer y en el de la juventud.

Este Ministerio que también recoge algunas de las competencias que tenía el Ministerio de Trabajo y Asuntos Exteriores, está abanderado por la ministra más joven de la historia, Bibiana Aído. Es complejo entender el sistema de trabajo de un Ministerio y más de un Ministerio nuevo que abarca muchos temas y todos ellos de gran repercusión social. Dentro del Ministerio de Igualdad encontramos diferentes ámbitos de actuación, que se pueden dividir en 4 partes:
La Secretaría General de Políticas de Igualdad.
Principales líneas de actuación y funciones.
Principios y estrategias.
Además, dentro de estos campos de actuación, hay varios capitulos especiales dedicados a la violencia de género y a como erradicarla, desde campañas de información, de concienciación o de actuación. Otro de los temas en los que están trabajando desde el Ministerio es en el de incorporación del Principio de Igualdad de oportunidades en todas las políticas públicas. Las políticas de igualdad que se están llevando a cabo en todos los ámbitos son ahora uno de los principales objetivos del Ministerio y de la ministra. La actuación en todos los ámbitos y el asesoramiento son pautas de actuación para cumplir y para erradicar la violencia machista. Al igual que el Ministerio de Igualdad ha puesto en marcha, varias medidas a seguir, como un teléfono de asistencia a todas las mujeres maltratadas y asesoramiento en cada una de la delegaciones que por provincia intentan informar a la mujer del horror que está viviendo y de cómo se deben hacer los trámites de la denuncia. Desde luego un Ministerio, que al margen de la polémica absurda que en algún momento se creó, tiene muchos planes, planes que mejorarán vidas y que desde luego trabajaran por erradicar la violencia de género.
El Ministerio de Igualdad es buena idea siempre que no se fomente ni el machismo, ni el feminismo, si somos iguales, pues al 50% todo en lo que se pueda estar.
